cts at SEMICON SEA 2025: Intelligent automation for semiconductor factories
cts GmbH will be exhibiting at SEMICON Southeast Asia in Singapore from May 20 to 22, 2025.
cts will be at SEMICON SEA 2025 in Singapore to showcase our latest automation solutions for the smart semiconductor fab. From wafer handling and FOSB packaging to real-time cleanroom logistics, this year's focus is clear: reliability through intelligent automation.
With us on the stand: Walter, Business Unit Lead at cts, who is responsible for the systems we are presenting at the trade fair. We sat down with Walter to talk about what's driving semiconductor innovation and what visitors can expect when they stop by.
The biggest challenge for semiconductor factories - and how cts is responding to it
Walter, in your opinion, what is the biggest challenge facing semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia and around the world today, and how do we at cts deal with it?
“The demands placed on semiconductor manufacturing are constantly increasing,” explains Walter. “Above all, the development of ever smaller and more powerful chips poses enormous technical and economic challenges. This requires constant innovation and high investment in research and development—the pace is fast, and technological leadership is crucial to market success.”
cts responds to this dynamic with a clear focus on customer-specific automation solutions. “Our expertise enables us to respond specifically to the requirements of semiconductor manufacturers and optimize production processes so that our customers remain competitive – today and in the future.”
Why automated FOSB packaging will change semiconductor manufacturing
One of the key systems shown by cts is the
ABT system for automatic FOSB packaging. Why is this step so important for the manufacturing process in semiconductor factories?
“The automated packaging of FOSBs is a central and highly critical component in semiconductor manufacturing,” emphasizes Walter. “A precise and reliable packaging process has a direct impact on efficiency, productivity, and quality - not only within manufacturing, but along the entire supply chain.”
The
ABT system from cts handles this sensitive process fully automatically – with high repeat accuracy, integrated leak testing, and complete traceability. “At the same time, we place great emphasis on adaptability,” says Walter. “Every production process is different – and that is precisely where our strength lies: we tailor our systems precisely to the processes and requirements of our customers.”
How the Smart Warehouse / Mini improves storage and material flow in cleanroom environments
Cleanroom storage isn’t exactly flashy - but our
Smart Warehouse Mini is turning heads. What makes it so valuable outside the fab floor?
“In production facilities where space is limited, every square meter counts – and every move,” says Walter. “Our Smart Warehouse Mini enables a consistently efficient material flow without manual detours or time-consuming handling steps. This not only saves time, but also reduces the risk of errors.”
This is exactly where the system comes in: automated warehouse management ensures that materials are reliably stored, tracked, and made available - without human intervention, which is a potential source of errors. This not only increases process reliability but also the quality of the entire production.
“And the best thing about it is that the system is modular and can easily grow with the company – without any major changes to existing processes.” This is a clear advantage for companies that need to be efficient today but want to scale up tomorrow.
The future of semiconductor automation: an outlook
You’ve worked in automation for years. What excites you most about where semiconductor manufacturing is headed?
“I have been working in automation for many years and have accompanied developments in a wide variety of industries. But what has happened in recent years, especially in semiconductor manufacturing, has particularly impressed me,” says Walter. “The speed of innovation is enormous – and at the same time, technical complexity is growing at an impressively high level of precision.”
For Walter, one thing is certain: without sophisticated robot technology, precise control systems, and intelligent algorithms, modern semiconductor manufacturing would not be possible. “Working on these systems – helping to develop them, integrating them into processes, and thinking ahead – is my greatest motivation.”
What particularly appeals to him is the constant learning curve: “Every day brings new challenges – and at the same time the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the technological future. That makes working in this field not only challenging, but also incredibly fulfilling.”
What you can expect from cts at SEMICON SEA 2025: Stand B1716, Hall D
For visitors coming to SEMICON SEA - what should they look out for at your booth?
“Quite clearly, our innovative ability,” says Walter with a smile – and he doesn't mean that as a cliché. “At SEMICON SEA, we don't showcase visions of the future, but solutions that are already in use today – practical, scalable, and tailored to the real challenges of semiconductor manufacturing.”
Whether it's
automated FOSB packaging,
smart cleanroom logistics, or
flexible handling systems, cts demonstrates how intelligent automation can stabilize, accelerate, and secure complex production processes. “Visitors to our booth will gain insights into systems that can be seamlessly integrated into existing lines – and deliver real added value.”
